My Eternal Roots has been in business since 2004 in south Florida. The idea for My Eternal Roots came to me when I made a visit to Bobo Hill in 10 Mile Bull-Bay, Jamaica.
While I was there a priest introduced himself to me as the Honorable Priest Harold. He took me to his gates and fed me food and gave me drinks. He gave me a drink made from roots like nothing I have ever had in my entire life, and that moment inspired me to create my own.
After experiencing that moment, I spent several days on the hill before I left and returned to Westmoreland, Beeston Spring, Jamaica where I met up with my grandmother, cousins, my uncle, and friends. That day I left my uncle’s house and went to my grandmother’s house for dinner. We had dinner and talked about good life and then I saw a bottle in the corner of her house. I asked her what was in the bottle and she told me it was a root tonic and that she drank it to relieve any pains in her body. I was very surprised because my grandmother was making root tonic.
After a few days I was still anxious to learn more about root tonic. My grandmother brought me to her house where she presented to me various types of roots. The first root she showed me was sarsaparilla, she told me this was the most important root. I dug some roots from my grandmother’s property and she told me how to deal with them. I brought the roots back to the states with me and started the process of making my own root tonic.
I had drunk root tonics before I went to Bobo Hill, 10 miles. I have had root tonics from the original icons like Tallawah Roots and the original San Kofa. I went to a Bobo Shanti gathering with many other Bobo Shantis who made some of the most refreshing root tonics, and I sampled and drank their root tonics daily.
After sampling all their tonics and learning about the tastes and smells and, most important, texture, I decided to make my own root tonic. After many months and years passed, I have perfected my craft and become very good at what I do. I am now a root tonic specialist, turning water into wine!
